The CastleGuard Whole House Softener Combo System provides comprehensive water treatment designed especially for homes on city water. However, while this is our #1-selling combo for City Water, this system can be effectively utilized on private well water for the right applications. This multi-stage system combines a sediment filter to capture dirt, sand, rust, and undissolved particles to 5 microns. The upflow carbon filter with a Vortech tank is highly effective at reducing chlorine, chloramines, haloacetic acids, volatile organic compounds and synthetic compounds, as well as foul tastes and odors, and many other chemicals and VOCs. The metered water softener is designed to eliminate hard water issues caused by excessive calcium and magnesium, as well as low levels of iron and manganese.
Designed for efficiency, simplicity, and low maintenance, this combo system provides cleaner, better-tasting, softened water throughout your entire home, while helping protect your plumbing, fixtures, water heaters, and appliances from scale and mineral buildup. The straightforward system design also makes installation manageable for experienced DIYers and handy homeowners with basic plumbing skills, while remaining well-suited for professional installation if desired.
Combines carbon filtration and true water softening so faucets, showers, laundry, water heaters, and appliances receive treated water from one complete whole-home system.
By removing calcium and magnesium hardness minerals, softened water can help soaps and shampoos rinse more cleanly, leaving skin and hair feeling smoother and less coated.
Soft water helps detergent work more efficiently and reduces mineral residue on fabrics, helping clothes and linens feel softer and look brighter.
The carbon filtration stage helps reduce chlorine, chloramines, haloacetic acids, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), synthetic organic compounds (SOCs), and foul tastes and odors, helping improve the quality of water used for drinking, cooking, and bathing.
Removing hardness minerals helps reduce scale buildup and the chalky spotting commonly seen on faucets, shower glass, dishes, and other hard surfaces.
Reduced scale can help protect water heaters, dishwashers, washing machines, fixtures, and household plumbing from hard-water mineral buildup.
Water enters from the source feed line and into the upflow carbon filtration tank. Water moves upward through a bed of high-grade premium carbon media blend, helping to reduce chlorine, chloramines, haloacetic acids, volatile organic compounds, synthetic compounds, foul tastes and odors, and VOCs. The upflow design path, along with the Vortech tank, eliminates channeling concerns and provides for optimal media contact and maximum filtering benefits.
Water is directed into an included 4.5” x 20” high-flow sediment filter housing with a 5-micron sediment filter. Sand, dirt, rust, and particulate debris in the water are removed to the 5-micron pore size. (5 microns is similar to about 15 times less than the diameter of human hair.)
The now filtered water enters the Eco-Smart Metered Water Softener. Through a process call Ion-Exchange, water hardness minerals, namely calcium and magnesium, are captured and temporarily stored in the tank.
Periodically the water softener, initiates a cycle called backwash and regeneration. This will cause a discharge of the captured contaminants through a designated drain line, clean and regenerate the resin media inside of the main tank. As this is a smart metered control system, the process of backwash and regeneration only occurs as needed. This process not only results in an effective and efficient process, but it reduces overall long-term cost due to less regeneration, less salt usage and less water waste.
Now that the water has been effectively filtered and softened, water will flow back to the main feed line into the home, providing filtered and true soft water at every tap, faucet and water based appliance, all while protecting you plumbing.

A dedicated carbon tank and dedicated softener tank provide both filtration and true hardness removal in a traditional dual-tank configuration.
High-efficiency control valve designed to maximize performance while minimizing water waste.
Ion exchange removes calcium and magnesium rather than simply conditioning them, helping reduce scale and hard-water spotting.
Carbon filtration helps improve chlorine-related taste and odor concerns before water reaches fixtures throughout the home.
Softened water can help soaps and detergents rinse more effectively, improving the feel of skin, hair, towels, and clothing.
Reduced hardness scale can help protect plumbing, water heaters, dishwashers, washing machines, showerheads, and faucets.
Unique Smart function controls allow for manual or Bluetooth control of settings, adjustments, and system performance monitoring.

Water Softener Pellets
We recommend Water Softener salt pellets or salt crystals designed for water softener systems. This salt is generally available at major hardware or grocery stores and is commonly sold in 25- or 40-pound bags. Instead of the common water softener salt, potassium chloride may also be used.
The premium 10% Crosslink Resin in your CastleGuard Water Softener has a performance life expectancy of 15-20 years or longer and can be replaced within the tank if needed. Ultimately, water characteristics and water usage rates will cause life expectancy to vary. For city water, using a carbon-based whole-house filter installed before the softener to reduce chlorine / chloramines will provide better overall water quality and significantly improve the longevity of the softener resin.
Hard water minerals and chlorine can leave hair feeling dry, dull, or coated. By combining carbon filtration with true water softening, the system helps reduce chlorine-related odors while removing calcium and magnesium hardness minerals. The result is water that helps shampoo and conditioner lather and rinse more effectively, leaving hair feeling softer and smoother and looking naturally shinier after washing.
Hard water minerals can react with soaps and body washes, leaving behind residue that may make skin feel dry, tight, or coated. By removing calcium and magnesium hardness minerals, true softened water helps soaps lather and rinse away more effectively. The result is a cleaner, more comfortable bathing experience that can leave skin feeling softer, smoother, and refreshed after every shower.
Whole-home carbon filtration helps reduce chlorine-related tastes and odors, giving your water a cleaner, fresher foundation for drinking, ice, coffee, tea, and cooking. Paired with true water softening, the system also helps reduce hard-water scale throughout the home—so you get better-tasting water at the tap along with broader protection for fixtures, plumbing, and water-using appliances.
It combines whole-home carbon filtration with a salt-based water softener. The carbon stage helps improve chlorine-related taste and odor concerns, while the softener removes calcium and magnesium hardness minerals.
Yes. The softening stage uses ion exchange to remove hardness minerals from the water.
The two technologies perform different jobs. Carbon filtration helps address taste and odor concerns, while the softener removes hardness minerals that cause scale and spotting.
Yes. Removing hardness minerals helps reduce scale buildup in water heaters, dishwashers, washing machines, fixtures, and plumbing.
Softened water can help soaps and shampoos rinse more effectively and may leave skin and hair feeling smoother and less coated.
Potentially. Soft water allows soaps and detergents to work more efficiently. Actual savings depend on the original water hardness, products used, and cleaning conditions.
The workbook FAQ and row-15 specification both state approximately every 6-9 months on average, depending on water quality. The autoship field allows 6 months to 1 year, so the final customer-facing interval should be standardized.
The SKU sheet says yes and describes smartphone monitoring through the Legacy View app. Exact valve compatibility should be confirmed before launch.
Regeneration depends on water hardness, system capacity, and household water use. The system should be programmed based on actual conditions rather than presented as operating on a fixed schedule.
The softener regeneration cycle requires a drain and the smart control valve requires power. Exact drain size, voltage, and power requirements are still needed for the product page.
Potentially, but a current laboratory water test should be reviewed first. The workbook contains conflicting city/well application notes across combo variants, so model-specific guidance should be confirmed.
Possibly. This combo addresses hardness and whole-home filtration concerns, but a point-of-use reverse osmosis system may still be recommended for specific dissolved drinking-water contaminants or customer preferences.
